We use a range of trusted brands tailored to each project’s unique needs. For every installation, we choose only products that meet strict Canadian standards and are certified for safe, reliable use. This ensures that each component—whether it’s a panel, lighting fixture, or specialized equipment—is rated for the specific demands of the job and built to last. 

Yes, customers are welcome to supply their own materials, and the cost of those materials will be credited against the job balance. However, please note that Shortbusters Electric cannot extend a warranty to any customer-supplied materials. While we always stand behind our workmanship, any issues caused by defects in customer-supplied items—such as devices, cables, or breakers—will be the customer’s responsibility. This includes any labor required to remove or replace defective materials. Rest assured, our team will work with care and precision, but any risk associated with non-warrantied materials remains with the customer. 

For smaller jobs, troubleshooting, and service calls, we use a time-and-materials rate, billed with a two-hour minimum. Direct job costs—like materials and permits—are charged with a standard markup to cover overhead. For larger projects, we prefer to provide a firm-price quote, so you know the total cost upfront without surprises. Our approach means you won’t need to worry about watching the clock or being charged for time spent discussing your project on-site. 

For larger projects, we bill monthly based on completed milestones, while smaller jobs are billed upon completion. We’ll review all billing details with you upfront to ensure transparency. 

Drive time to the job site is typically included for projects within the Peterborough and Kawarthas region. For time-and-materials jobs, any necessary drive time to suppliers and back for parts or materials is also included in the billing. We do our best to pre-screen each job for parts and materials to minimize trips, so the more information you can provide us upfront, the better we can prepare. Additional travel charges may apply for projects located outside our normal service area; we’ll discuss these costs with you beforehand. 

At Shortbusters Electric, we’re committed to making sure every client is satisfied with our work. If you have any concerns during or after your project, just let us know—we’ll do our best to address them and ensure you’re happy with the final result. 

Yes, we offer a standard 30-day warranty on materials, devices, and equipment to cover any initial flaws. Extended warranties are also available if desired. We stand behind our workmanship, but if any materials or devices fail outside of the warranty period, additional charges will apply for removal and replacement. Just let us know if you’d like more details on warranty options to protect your investment.

For small repairs and service calls, we charge a time-and-materials rate (see "How do you charge for your services"). While we can give you a rough idea of costs over the phone based on the scope of work, diagnosing specific electrical issues requires an in-person visit to ensure accuracy and safety. Contact us, and we’ll help you get started! 

We’ll keep in close contact with you to keep you informed and up to date on the progress of your project. For larger projects, factors like client selections, coordination with other contractors, or waiting on utility providers like Hydro One for service upgrades can affect timelines. While projects can sometimes be unpredictable, we do everything we can to manage these risks to keep the project on track and ensure a smooth delivery. Clear communication and proactive planning are our priorities to help manage expectations and make the process as seamless as possible. 

Our team handles all necessary electrical permitting and inspections with the ESA, ensuring that every aspect of our work meets Ontario’s electrical codes and standards. Safety and compliance are integral to every project we take on. Please note, we manage only electrical permits and inspections; any additional building permits are the responsibility of the client or other contractors involved.
